Day 9

Today we started with metazet demonstration nersery were they have some of the latest equipment in the horticultural field also on there  site they allow other componeys and students use space for trials and research purpases. One pf the most intoresting things here for me was the suspende chaon rack. This is a sort of convayer system in which pots hung on racks to save space so that you can still grow stock underneath it. Then we went to topkrop to look at dry hydroponic system this is a system in which a crop is planted into polystyrien sheet that are floted on a nutrient solution. The plants are able to breath becouse of the air poket between the water and the polystyrien. Any plant can be grown like this as long as it dose not requier any type of suport to keep it upright.

Day 6

Today we whent to ball colegrave to look at a system of veticle garden they have developed a system off vertical gardens that works by using trays with drippers in them that are then attched to a wall via brackits that attach to the wall and then the modual simply hangs off it. We then whent to vally grown salids which is another grower of hydroponic peppers.

Day 5

To day we went to hillier nursery which is a large wholesaler of your a to z range of shrubs. The thing i found most intoresting was the use of spanish tunnels which allowed a good amount of air flow but at the same time protect the plants from frosts. After that we whent to tangmer airfield pepper growers. They grow all there pepers under glass nd have a fully automated feedinding system.

Day 9

Today we are viseting naaldwijk flower auction here they are selling floweres by a clock method in which the price gose down and byers then buy when it reaches the disierd price. They also have a section called the pyromid were a buyer can get stock at a set price. Now we are seeing van winden who are a comercial tomato grower here we are able to look at how the tomatos are paleted. Here an insect known as myclover is used as a biological control. The myclover eats a vide range of pests but unfortunatly the insect is not alowed to be brought into australia. We then whent to see a small comunity museum which showed the history of horticulture in Holland
